[Drama Review] Reply 1994


The sequel to Reply 1997 bringing it back to 1994 with Go Ara, Jung Woo, Yoo Yeon Seok, Kim Sung Kyun, Baro, Son Ho Jun, Min Do Hee, and the returning parents from the first part; Sung Dong Il and Lee Il Hwa.

Set in 1994, six university students from various provincial areas of South Korea live together at a boarding house in Sinchon, Seoul, which is run by a couple with a daughter name Na Jung. Like it predecessor, Reply 1997, it follows a non-linear story telling where it shifts between the past in 1994 and the preset in 2013, making the viewers guess who will become Na Jung's husband among the male characters. The series follows the pop culture events that happened between 1994 and the years that follow, including the emergence of seminal KPOP group Seo Taiji and Boys and the Korean Basketball League.

Go Ara | Jung Woo

Go Ara plays as Sung Na Jung, originally from Masan, South Gyeongsang Province. She is majoring in Computer Engineering and has an easygoing personality. She is a big fan of the basketball player Lee Sang Min. 

Jung Woo plays as 'Sseureki' (meaning Garbage or Trash)  later named as Kim Jae Joon. He is a medical student and his best friend was Na Jung's late older brother, so her grew up with the Sung siblings. His hometown is also Masan, South Gyeongsang Province. 

 

Yoo Yeon Seok | Baro

Yoo Yeon Seok plays as 'Chilbong' (meaning Seven Shut Outs) later named as Kim Seon Joon. Although he is only a freshmen, he is the number one pitcher of Yonsei University's baseball team. He has a crush on Na Jung and his hometown is Gangnam, Seoul. 

Baro plays as 'Binggeure' (meaning Smiley; referencing baseball team Binggrae Eagles) later named Kim Dong Joon. He is Chilbong's cousin and Garbage's lowerclassman in should. He is from Goesan, North Chungcheong Province. 


Son Ho Jun | Kim Sung Kyun

Son Ho Jun plays as 'Haitai' (referencing baseball team Haitai Tigers) later named Son Ho Joon. His father is the CCEO of the bus company Suncheon Transportation Inc. His hometown is Suncheon, South Jeolla Province. 

Kim Sung Kyun plays as 'Samcheonpo' (referencing his hometown) later name Kim Sung Kyun. He looks much older than he actually is, but his hometown is Samcheonpo, South Gyeongsang Province. 

 

Min Do Hee | Lee Il Hwa

Min Do Hee plays as Jo Yoon Jin. She is a fan of Seo Taiji and Boys and her hometown is Yeosu, South Jeolla Province. 

Lee Il Hwa plays as Lee Il Hwa, the mother of Na Jung. She runs a boarding house in Seoul along side her husband Dong Il and daughter Na Jung. 


Sung Dong Il

Sung Dong Il plays as Sung Dong Il, the father of Na Jung. He is also a coach of the baseball team called Seoul Ssangdungi.

Review:

I been a huge fan of Reply 1997 and so I was really happy when this one came out. I love it because it is all a mystery trying to figure out who is her husband but at the same time pairing them up too. Of course that not all, the characters are all amazing, and the other pairings are so cool. I mean watching the scene with Do Hee cursing and the couple together. I just can't wait for the next one.
