KPOP OT EP 25: Top 10 Solo Artists

Welcome back to another episode of KPOP OT where we talk about everything and anything related to KPOP or the Korean Hallyu Wave.

We are officially done with the group positions so I thought we should just address this topic which is my favorite top ten solo artists. For this list I only choose artists that is active as a solo artist right now and not in a group. For example, Taeyeon is currently active as a solo artists but she still in Girls Generation therefore, I didn't add her to this list. Some of the solo artists may debuted in a group before but if they disband already and then currently a solo then I added those.

Disclaimer! This rank or list does not reflect their success or career. This is not from a poll. This is just base on my own opinions and thoughts.
Let's get start!

She is a very talented artists and I am glad she very successful now, because a lot of artist work very hard before they become successful. I love her music but I actually love her personality more than anything. Every time I see her on a variety show, I know that I am going to get a good laugh or something funny is going to happen. She doesn't disappoint me when it comes to being true and honest. She is very American as what some Korean celebrity have said on many shows but I really do just love her.

9. Heize

Heize is a Korean singer, rapper, songwriter, composer, and producer under P NATION. She debuted on March 21, 2014 with the song 'After I Wonder A Bit.' During the show Unpretty Rapstar, she was a semi-finalist but was eliminated. She is known for her OST in Goblin. She has a very distinctive, remarkable and unique voice that makes her very recognizable.

I really love her voice and that is what made her very attractive to me when I first discover her. After seeing her on variety shows, I really like her sweet personality. She seems so sweet and kind through the variety shows she participated in and she just a very beautiful girl too.

Kim Jae Hwan is a Korean singer songwriter under Swing Entertainment. He debuted in Wanna One on August 7, 2017 and made his solo debut on May 20, 2019 with the song 'Begin Again.'

Although he had trained in companies before, he choose to join Produce 101 as an independent trainee. He is known for his maniacal laughter.

Through the show, I really discover Jae Hwan's vocal skills and I am a huge fan of him. He sing with ease and his voice is very soothing and beautiful. He can rap and dance too, just adding more bonuses to him only. Honestly, I would love to see him in a group setting but I think going solo was a very good choice for him.

I discover Crush through a collaboration when Taeyeon of Girls Generation feature in his song 'Don't Forget' and fell in love with his voice since then. I also went to KCON LA 2018 and was able to hear him sing live in concert too.

Jamie has co-hosted After School Club with, Eric Nam, Kevin Woo, Jae Park, Seungmin of Stray Kids, Woo Sung of The Rose, Yuri Park and Han Hee Jun since 2014. Interesting fact is that she live in Thailand for seven to eight years.

I remember watching her on KPOP STAR and saying she was going to be successful. I was disappointed that she was not hugely successful as I wish she would be but since she has left JYP, I think she is doing a lot better. I love her sense of humor and if you watch her on After School Club, she is hilarious and there so many videos of her clips from that show. My favorite clip of her is her calling out JYP that she need an album because she is a singer. Just go watch it. Laugh all you want because I laugh when I first saw it too. She is a great singer too and I wish her well and success now.

5. Ailee

Ailee is a Korean-American singer songwriter under The L1ve. She made her debut on February 9, 2012 under YMC Entertainment with the song 'Heaven.' After the judges had graded all the participants, Ailee was the first place winner.

Ailee was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in New Jersey. Before her KPOP debut, she was signed under Muzo Entertainment, an independent agency in New York City and New Jersey. She collaborated with several artists before moving to South Korea. She also started her own Youtube channels to bring attention to her singing on the web.

I remember listening and watching her sing 'Halo' and fell in love with her and her amazing voice. The way she hits all her high notes was beautiful. Luckily, I didn't have to wait long her debut and I was very please when she debuted with 'Heaven.'

4. Eric Nam

From 2013 to 2016, he cohosted Arirang TV's After School Club with Jang Han Byul, Kevin Woo, and Jamie Park.

Eric was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated cum laude from Boston College in 2011 with a major in International Studies. Before pursing music, he was a business analyst. Because he is talented, handsome and smart, Korean referred him as Nation's Boyfriend. Eric was named "2016 Man Of The Year" by GQ Korea, honored "30 Under 30 Asia 2017" by Forbes, and YouTube Music's Global Trending "Artist on the Rise."

I didn't discover Eric until he started hosting After School Club and became his fan later when he joined We Got Married. That is when I started noticing all the good manners he have and started really like him.

3. Sunmi

Sunmi is a South Korean artist under ABYSS Company. She made her debuted as a member of Wonder Girls on February 13, 2007 under JYP Entertainment with the song 'Irony.' She made her solo debut on February 17, 2014 with the song '24 Hours' under JYP Entertainment.

On January 27, 2017, Wonder Girls disbanded and Sunmi left JYP Entertainment to joined Makeus Entertainment, now known as Abyss Company.

In 2020, she serve as a Planet Master for the survival show Girls Planet 999.

I am a huge fan of the second generation idols and that includes Wonder Girls so I was very sad to see Sunmi leaving the group. I was glad she did comeback as an artist but first it was a solo comeback which I was very sad about but she did rejoined the group which I love. In general, I love her as a Wonder Girls member but I glad she had a solo debut because I can not imagine Sunmi not being a solo artist and not releasing all her solo songs.

2. Chungha

Chungha is a Korean solo singer under MNH Entertainment that debuted on June 7, 2017 with the song 'Why Don't You Know?.' She first made her debuted with the girl group I.O.I. that debuted on May 4, 2016 with the song 'Dream Girls.'

Chungha lived in Dallas, Texas for eight years before returning to Korea to become a singer. She auditioned for YG Entertainment and was a former JYP Entertainment trainee before joining MNH Entertainment. She trained for three years before her debut.

Honestly, I didn't like her on Produce 101 because of the evil editing that Mnet does, but during the second round when the Avengers performed 'Bang Bang' that was when my feelings for her started to change and since then I love this girl. She is a dancing queen and I was very happy she made a solo debut instead of a group debut because other than I.O.I I don't think she would fit in any of the other group.

1. IU

IU is a South Korean solo singer and actress under Kakao M (formerly LOEN Entertainment). She made her debuted on September 18, 2008. On January 6, 2020, it was announced that she signed a contract with EDAM Entertainment.

In 2011, she was a contestant on Kim Yuna's Kiss and Cry, a figure skating/ice dancing reality variety show. In 2017, she joined season one of Hyori's Homestay. She made her acting debut on KBS2's Dream High

She hold the title as Nation's Little Sister and Nation's Sweetheart.

Do I have to tell you why I love this girl? I don't think I should because she is so well known and respected. Many juniors look up to her as a role model and I think that should say a lot about how successful and great she is as a person and artist.

These are my favorite solo artists. Are they yours too? If not, let me know who is your favorite. I'll see you in the next episode of KPOP OT.
